The main objective of the Chikara Martial Arts and Self-defense School of Chelsea Inc. is to disseminate martial arts and combative sport instruction without compromising on quality. Chikara’s mission is to teach proven techniques in sparring as well as in self-defence. The techniques taught are subjected to pressure tests to ensure that they are fit-for-purpose.

The School is federally incorporated as a non-profit organization in relation to its vocation of community involvement and education. The School’s technical directors and instructors learned their various martial arts and combative sport skills from community-based non-profit organizations in Gatineau (namely the city of Gatineau’s judo and taekwon-do clubs).

In addition, the School is registered as an aboriginal business. As such, Chikara aims to forge links with the Aboriginal communities of the greater Outaouais region.

Since June 2022, the Chikara School of Martial Arts and Self-Defense of Chelsea Inc. has been recognized as a partner (category B) by the Municipality of Chelsea for judo and kickboxing/taekwon-do. As an integral part of the Chelsea community, the School teaches and communicates in both French and English.

Finally, for combative sports (such as judo and kickboxing/taekwon-do), sparring is compulsory at all levels. Moreover, in keeping with the School’s objective of training students in martial arts without compromising on quality, belt grading is never a given, but must always be earned.
